Horse Abandonment
Our Equine Responder was called out to an emergency on Wednesday 5th January 2012. A yearling had empailed itself on barbed wire and was in extreme disress. The yearling was released from the entanglement and with the injuries being so severe, the collective decision was made to euthanise the poor animal. Please be aware, this video contains distressing images.
We would like to acknowledge the assistance from the DSPCA and GardaĆ on dealing with this case. The remaining horses were immediately moved to a more suitable location.
The above accident highlights the danger of keeping horses on unsuitable land. Barbed wire and wasteland is not appropriate.
